Karel Zeman anti-war black comedy – A JESTER’S TALE – released on dvd

A Jesters TaleA JESTER’S TALE (PG) CZECHOSLOVAKIA ZEMAN, KAREL £12.99

Described by Zeman as a ‘pseudo-historical’ film, this bold anti-war black comedy following the adventures of a ploughboy and a mercenary, press-ganged into service on the battlefields of the devastating Thirty Years’ War of 1618 – 1648.

This film, a combining live action and animation, follows Petr (Petr Kostka), a young farmer who is forced to fight during the Thirty Years’ War in 17th-century Europe. Together with his new friends, Petr experiences the real horror of war while desperately trying to avoid being killed.

Co-scripted by Pavel Jurácek, this startlingly inventive film emerges as a sharp satire on war, human nature and of the way we perceive history itself.
