Never Look AwayWERK OHNE AUTOR/NEVER LOOK AWAY (15) 2018 GERMANY DONNERSMARCK, FLORIAN HENCKEL VON DVD – £17.99 BLU RAY – £21.99
A historical drama that explores the complexity of 20th century Germany and is loosely based on the painter Gerhard Richter.

The films cover the three decades from the 1930s to the 1960s in the life of painter Kurt Barnert.

Starting with the 1937 Nazis’ Degenerate Art exhibition which the young Kurt attends, the films follow Kurt as he finds employment as an artist in East Germany after the war.

However finding the artistic restrictions placed on him just as overbearing as the Nazi regime, he moves to West Germany as penniless artist in 1961. Admitted to the avant-garde Kunstakademie Dusseldorf his career takes off.
