PUSHING HANDS (1992)
Retired t’ai chi master moves from Beijing to live with his son and American daughter-in-law the suburbs of New York. However he struggles to adapt to Western culture.
THE WEDDING BANQUET’ (1993)
A wealthy couple Wai-Tung Gao (Winston Chao) and Simon (Mitchell Lichtenstein) are living the American dream in Manhattan. However Wai-Tung’s parents are still putting pressure on their son to get married and have children, unaware that he’s gay.
To passive his parents Wei-Wei (May Chin), who illegally sublets Wai-Tung’s loft, moves in with the two men.
However, what began as a simple lie descends into a fully fledged farce as a small city hall ceremony transforms into an enormous wedding banquet and the truth is forced to come out.
EAT DRINK MAN WOMAN (1994)
Set in the Taiwanese city of Taipei, Mr. Chu (Lung) is an elderly widower and top chef who loses his sense of taste. His life is further complicated by his three ungrateful grown-up daughters.
